No, we're not. Look at the weeks during the season when we were getting wins and confidence was high amongst the players. It's the easiest way to see how we were set up by the manager. We went out and played a direct, high tempo game as much as possible.

Of course there were games when we passed it back and forth without a clue but that wasn't through design. It's what would happen if you were West Brom or Arsenal and you had a difficult few weeks. It's symptomatic of a lack of confidence and ability.

We don't play a slow tempo game through instruction, and never have done. There were times when we tried to walk the ball in but that was a good few seasons ago now.

Most teams place an importance on retaining the ball. We got a bit carried away during the Fabregas-Hleb days but it's normal to try and keep the ball.

When you have a bunch of technically average players, whatever style of football you play is relatively ineffective to what it's suppose to be.

You could see the change in our approach last season but I'm not sure how much of it was "coached in".

A top calibre creator playing the role Cesc played would become a natural focal point for us. Other players with solid ball control and decision-making when under pressure ... cough Nasri ... would also help.

You are going to route your attack wide or long when you have players who don't reliably use the ball well through the midfield. This was the issue last season: we had consistently average performances from Ramsey and Rosicky for long stretches, and we had Song shouldering too much responsibility to create with forward chips.

I'm not saying we should go back to having a player in the "Cesc role". It has its upsides and downsides. One more top quality player, the return of Wilshere and the promotion of Oxlade-Chamberlain would refine our play considerably without needing a magic wand.

We definitely played some sort of make it up as we go along style last season with elements of everything, like Kami said I have no idea how we'll look this season but I obviously hope that pussyball is being phased out.

Let me phrase it differently then, we place more importance on retaining the ball than most teams.

Not sure about this, but there's a suggestion he might yet change his mind and stay - could be trying to pull a Rooney.

I called that a while back. I don't think he planned it that way - I'm sure he was just trying to force a move, but I think he'll end up staying and signing a new contract after we offer him a bit more money. The club will allow him to spin it in his favour too by saying he turned down a big Man City offer. Wouldn't be the first big player to do this; Rooney, Vieira, Gerrard to name a few.

Suprisingly, the most productive forward in england is finding it difficult to find interested clubs, due to his age and injury history clubs are reluctant to sign him for big money, i can see his only realistic destinations being juventus, real or city and i dont think any really want to break the bank for him.

If we make a serious signing worth 20 million i can see rvp signing the contract and remaining.

Sky Sports sources understand Robin van Persie could sign a new contract at Arsenal after all despite making a statement to the contrary.

The 28-year-old striker stunned the Gunners by announcing his unwillingness to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium via his own website earlier this month.

With just one year remaining on the Dutchman's current deal this has fuelled frenzied speculation that the player could be heading to the likes of Juventus or Manchester City this summer.

But sources suggest the situation could yet be resolved with echoes of Wayne Rooney's transfer request that preceded his signing of a bumper deal with Manchester United in 2010.

Van Persie has already stated he loves Arsenal and that he will have further talks with Ivan Gazidis when the club's chief executive returns from holiday.

Questions remain about the need for such talks if Van Persie's mind is already made up. But more significantly, it is believed the intention was always for contract talks to occur upon Gazidis' return.

This raises the intriguing possibility that Van Persie's personal announcement that so displeased Arsenal was partly used as an act of brinkmanship ahead of further negotiations.

The Holland international is settled in London where his children are in school and is well aware that his next contract could be the last significant pay-day of his career.
