I think RVP knows we are not far behind the 2 teams that finished above us last season just bad luck has damaged us more than anything else recently.

I'm pretty confident Robin will stay, not because of his love for the club, but because I can't see him joining any clubs other than Barca or Real both of which are not interested. Italian clubs are highly unlikely and he probably won't join another English club so I don't see him leaving this summer.

Whether he signs a new contract we'll have to wait and see. He might leave on a free next summer which will attract more offers, or he might sign a big sign on bonus contract from us similar to Henry in 2006.

Clubs aren't exactly falling over themselves to sign him. The fact that RvP and the club have agreed not to talk about it helps of course. But it's pretty interesting that after his season, he doesn't seem to have that many clubs pursuing him.

It's not that weird. I think he loves Arsenal whether he stays or goes, so in order to leave I think the club with the offer has to be much better than us, and not English. The Serie A sucks, so that leaves him with pretty much Bayern, Real Madrid and Barcelona. None of them need a striker in my opinion, though van Persie would add a new dimension to Bayern that Gomez could only dream of doing.

Might be a touch of bad timing for him. The last 2 summers I could have seen Real or City being desperate to get him but they've both just won titles and they've got good first choice front men as it is. There aren't many teams at that level now who combine the need to take a risk like Robin, at his age with the funds to pry him away from Arsenal and give him a better chance to win things than he has here.

Their finances are fine, A1 even, according to everything I've read. Plenty of debt but plenty of ability to deal with it. More probably Villanova finding his feet?

I also read something about 'Rossell having assured him funds were available' the other day, though, which perhaps means money's too tight to mention 😉

Maybe this has to do with trying to look like "at this time we're not splashing in the usual way" (with bail out request, etc.)? Just a thought.

completely in favor of letting him become a free agent next year if that's what he wants. if one (or two) of the strikers that are on our books long term is a real revelation next season then he wouldn't be missed. if they all suck then even wenger/gadzidis would know a high quality replacement needs to be brought in next summer.
