Will be a sickening sight to see him in a Man Utd shirt. I remember being a 14 year old kid finding out we had signed a young Dutchman on a small column in the daily mirror that could have easily been missed by the naked eye, which is only a testament to how much we developed him as a player because now his transfer is making front pages in some papers. I loved his attitude, personality, his class, technique and his unorthodox style of play. He instantly became a fan favorite of mind when he scored that last minute equalizer against Southampton in 2004. The fans took to him from the start, he was a bit like our Balotelli, that fiery talent who we all hoped would one day be tamed into a player who could fulfill his massive potential. Watching him constantly break down when we needed him was gut wrenching, especially post 2007 when he became an important player for us.
The irony of his cries for ambition is that he would've probably fulfilled his "ambition" here if he wasn't made out of glass. He picked up two season ending injuries in 07/08 and 09/10 away at international duty. We needed him the most in those two seasons where we looked to be on the verge of winning major honors but instead he got hurt playing for a country who couldn't careless about him. Funny how he always managed to be fit for Holland during their big moments, i wonder how they repaid him after euro 2012....
