If that's the case, why would we want to keep him?

Even if he isn't hot property, plenty of clubs will will want a player of his quality on a free.

If he stays and plays well, United (or someone else) will sign him for nothing. For the money they've spent and the incredible arse ache this transfer has been, I'm pretty sure United wanted him bad. This isn't an opportunistic signing at all.

If he stays and reverts to being injury prone, we're right back where we started six years ago. You wouldn't want him to get that contract anyway!

There was no immediately obvious good and easy solution in all this. We had to make the most of a bad situation (some of which was our own doing from fucking up in the past). We've made our decision and the proof will be in the eating.

'If' being the operative word here. If not, then we'll look pretty stupid. Besides, I thought the issue here was losing an Arsenal player to the clutches of Manchester United?

I'd rather just spend the money and look elsewhere, obviously selling to United is a huge embarrassment to everyone involved but I'm also sick of putting up with players that have dicked us around.

24 million is triffic. united were already good in an attacking sense so for that money tey get a slight improvement.

i feel giroud and podolski will offset the loss of rvp. this is nothing to get overly worried about in my opinion

To be fair Nela you thought him going to United was not an option, that Wenger would never sell to them.

Yes, you're absolutely right Y Va. I always thought it would be City or abroad. I never thought it would come down to a situation where United were the only party really interested.

But I understand why the board had to sanctioned the deal. Like I said earlier, we were lucky last year that City came in for Nasri or this might have happened then too.

Letting him rundown his contract was never a real option.

'If' is the operative word with any transfer. If he has issues, even minor, it might well put us back in the driving seat.

Anyway, all academic now.

Issue here, for me, is that £24m for the league's best forward, who's 29 and has an injury-ridden past is a reasonable deal. Selling him to a direct rival makes it look significantly less favourable. Not reinvesting (which obviously isn't a given, but reports suggest likely), just shows that it's the same old Wenger.

no - they'd have been just as well off playing kagawa in behind rooney with two from young, nani and valencia either side

anyways, £71m over 4 years for an ageing injury player is ridiculous. especially for a club up to its eyeballs in debt

ive every confidence we'll be a more potent attacking force this year with cazorla, podolski and giroud about

i think we'd do well to focus on getting in defensive reinforcements now

Clutching at straws... but I don't think they'll improve on 89 points so technically, they won't improve at all.

I don't understand United's refusal to sort out their midfield. I think a RvP-esqu signing in that position and they'd be second or third favourites for the Champions league.

and now they play the best two strikers in the league together, with Kagawa either next to Rooney, just behind him, or drifting in from wide.

Better than any combination of Nani, Young or Wellbeck.

As for us - I tend to agree we've improved. We've just helped a rival improve more, while taking a step backwards ourselves in the process.
