We do need better players than Kalou. But he in turn is a better player than many we have.

Those are the ones we need to get rid of. Replacing Yossi with Kalou is pointless.
The Podolski signing is right on so many levels. One of the important ones is that by buying a starter we get a current starter to provide depth.

Probably because he was brilliant in Holland. He made a big mistake when he moved to Chelsea at that age.

I don't mind kalou, but we'd still need a top quality attacking signing. If we get kawagwa AND kalou, we might be on to something.

We have Gervinho as backup. Kalou is no much better, if not worse. Older and less talented. In an ideal world we should have Theo on the bench as well.

Kalou is better than Gervinho - at least insofar as he isn't held back by the same ridiculous technical and mental flaws in his game. Far from perfect, and a bit of an idiot, but still, I'd much prefer to have Kalou coming off the bench.

Kalou is as bad as Gervinho in the final 3rd. At least age is on the side of Gervinho, plenty of time to correct his technical flaws.

Gervinho is also a better dribbler and crosser.

Gervinho is not as good as Kalou in the final third - he plays the percentages with his dribbling, but in terms of his shooting and his passing there's just no comparison. Couldn't give a toss about his crossing, it's basically a useless skill at Arsenal.

As for age - Kalou's 26, Gervinho 25 (it's his birthday!)

Not that Kalou doesn't come with plenty of problems of his own. But in terms of final ball and ability to stick a chance away, I'd have him ahead of about 3/4 of the players in our current squad.

Kalou is pants, I'd take Dempsey over him if we're looking for a squad player.
